Bayonne is a city in the Basque Country, a region in the southwest of France. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Nive and Adour. The historic district of Grand Bayonne is characterized by its narrow medieval streets. The Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame (or Sainte-Marie), with its 13th century cloister, and the Château-Vieux stand here. On the other side of the river Nive, in the Petit Bayonne district, is the Basque Museum and the History of Bayonne, dedicated to the arts, crafts and traditions of the region. It is also the city of chocolate.
